Abstract

"Focus on the Bangor region" piece on Hollywood Slots, with comments by Bangor residents on how the nearly one-year-old racino has affected them. Linda Demmons, a retail clerk, says business is only slightly up; Leo McHugh and Anita Priesing, racino employees, appreciate their jobs; Linda Meir, who lives nearby, says her street is still quiet; some 50 employees of the Holiday Inn being demolished for a new racino facility are losing their jobs; and David Creswell, who works at a coin and jewelry store, sees people selling their valuables to finance gambling. Negative impacts, such as an increase in crime, generally take several years to become evident.
