Abstract

"Focus: Health Care" piece on the Maine Medical Center Standardized Patient Program for medical students that uses actors portraying patients with specific conditions to evaluate a doctor's interpersonal skills. Director Jenny Skolfield says more than 200 doctors-in-training have participated in the program so far. The actors who portray the patients are trained to give feedback, and are given a detailed biographical sketch of their character. Maine Medical Center serves as a teaching site for the University of Vermont's College of Medicine.
