Abstract

"Business Maine: Statewide" piece on a recent report by ISO New England, which says New England needs at least eight new power plants by 2015 and needs to invest $3.5 billion to improve power transmission. The report also warns that the region has become much too dependent on electricity from natural gas, which is prone to wintertime price hikes. In Maine, state officials have balked at proposed ISO rate hikes designed to improve power transmission in southern New England, and have even said they will consider pulling Maine out of the six-state power grid and align instead with Canadian provinces.
