Abstract
Last winter's warm weather resulted in a disappointing year for Maine ski areas. Many ski areas spent the spring and summer upgrading their snowmaking equipment, improving lifts, and making other investments to gain an edge in the highly competitive ski industry. Greg Sweetser, executive director of the Ski Maine Association, said that until recently, resorts in Maine haven't had to invest in high tech snowmaking equipment. But ideal snowmaking conditions are increasingly infrequent in the state, leading ski areas to invest in more efficient equipment. With comments by Connie King, an owner at Lost Valley; and Ed Rock of Shawnee Peak. With a list of selected 2006 upgrades at Maine ski areas.
