Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on State General Fund revenues, which are predicted to grow by over $87 million in the current budget year. The state Revenue Forecasting committee increased the individual income tax estimates by $59 million and projected revenues from corporate income tax will grow by an additional $31 million. Most of the growth in personal income tax revenue is from the 25,000 top earners among Maine's roughly 650,000 taxpayers. Several members of the panel raised concerns about the narrow base on which the growth is projected.
