Abstract

"Focus: Building & Real Estate" piece with a profile of Kevin Mattson, president of Harper's Development. Mattson and Severin Beliveau founded the commercial real estate company in 1999. Since then, Harper's has grown rapidly both in the size of its portfolio and the scale of its projects. Projects include the purchase and renovation of the old Digital Equipment Corporation plant in Augusta, the Vishay-Sprague facility in Sanford, and the proposed redevelopment of the Saco Island complex in Saco. Mattson, former chairman of the state's Democratic Party, believes "smart growth" principles that favor redevelopment will help rebuild Maine's core centers that have been lost through economic change and physical decay.
