Abstract
"Focus: Building & Real Estate" piece on the Maine Construction Careers Alliance (MCCA), a collaboration of more than 20 organizations working to promote career opportunities in Maine's construction industry and help connect potential workers to training and employment resources. Pittsfield-based contractor Cianbro Corp. estimates that the field of 31,000 current construction workers in Maine should be boosted by at least 6,000 skilled tradespeople. Don Partridge of Reed & Reed Inc. says the average age of a worker in Maine's construction industry is between 45 and 48 years old, and that young people need to be brought in. With comments by Alan Burton, chairman of the MCCA; and John O'Dea, director of communications and member services at Associated Constructors of Maine.
