Abstract

"Focus Environment" piece green builders like John Ryan of Portland, co-founder of Wright-Ryan Construction with Thomas Wright. Ryan first explored green building in 1994 with the construction of the environmental center at Maine Audubon's Gilsland Farm in Falmouth. Wright-Ryan is a founding member of the Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, and Ryan wants the company to become the premier eco-builder in Maine. John Wasileski invested in a part-time sustainability director to focus on waste and energy reduction at his Maine retirement communities. Lately more companies are warming to the trend, though some employ disingenuous green marketing. With details on federal and state programs to help businesses go green.
