Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Chad Coffin, president of the new Maine Clammers Association. The association aims to empower clammers to change the industry regulations that hinder them, especially the Maine Department of Marine Resources' practice of closing mud flats to the state's shellfish workers. Coffin, 36, sees the importance working in Augusta to protect clamming jobs, which have an annual income between $60,000 and $70,000.
