Abstract

"Focus on Education & Training" piece with an interview with Lisa Plimpton, director of research at the Sen. George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute in Portland. She recently authored a study titled "From High School to College: Removing Barriers for Maine Students." The institute found that though interest in college has increased among high school students, enrollment has dropped. Barriers include high school students' lack of information on financial aid and not being on an academic track. Businesses have been slow to offer job shadowing, mentoring, and sessions on financial aid.
