Abstract
"Focus on Down East Region" piece on the Downeast Sunrise Trail, a project to convert about 85 miles of railbed, stretching from Hancock to Pembroke, into a multiuse trail that is expected to be completed next year. It has involved two decades of effort by concerned Hancock and Washington county residents and recent intervention by the Maine Department of Conservation, which is helping to fund the $2.55-million project. Arthur Tenan is hoping the trail and his Downeast Wilderness Experience, based in a lodge he plans to build in Cherryfield fronting the trail, will draw tourists to the area. With details on funding and construction of the trail.
