Abstract
Ready Seafood in Portland was launched in 2004 by brothers John and Brendan Ready as a lobster distribution business. After just three years in business, the company is on track to book nearly $10 million in sales for 2007. Mike Coffill, operations manager and expert fish cutter, convinced the brothers that there was money to be made selling high-quality haddock filets to restaurants and other customers. Though the new fish venture represents just three percent of the company's sales, the Readys see haddock as a means to diversify the company's products. They brought Coffill on board under a profit-sharing agreement, and his fish-cutting skills earn high praise from his loyal client base. With comments by John Norton, president and CEO of Cozy Harbor Seafood; and Dave Wilcox, owner of Ken's Place restaurant in Scarborough.
