Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on public hearings on North Carolina-based FairPoint Communication Inc.'s plan to merge with Verizon's landline telephone and Internet service in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Public Advocate Richard Davies expresses concern about FairPoint's high complaint rate among Maine customers and the financial risk of such a small company taking over a large operation. Davies says this will be the most important telecommunications case to ever come before the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
