Abstract

"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on Oxford Homes Inc., once one of the largest modular home builders in Maine. It was recently sold to Eco-Building Systems, which has roots in Boston. Nine unsecured creditors are petitioning the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to force Oxford into involuntary bankruptcy, and another creditor wants to file a civil action suit against Oxford. Between 2001 and 2005, modular home sales in Maine increased by roughly 50 percent, but since then, sales have dropped 33 percent. Oxford, under Peter Connell, came back from a 1994 bankruptcy, but did not have the capital to withstand the recent downturn.
