Abstract

"Focus on Greater Portland" piece on the E. Perry Metal and Iron scrapyard in Portland's developing Bayside neighborhood, near a new, upscale Whole Foods Market. The landscape is changing around the scrapyard, but the company, at its current location since 1896, has refused to move. Justin and Brandon Lerman, employees and future owners of the company, will be the fourth generation of Lermans to run the business. The city was able to entice the other Bayside scrapyard, New England Metal Recycling, to agree to relocate, but E. Perry refused the same offer.
