Abstract
"Focus on Midcoast Region" piece on how former hedge fund analyst Topher Mallory became CEO of the Newcastle-based import store, Mexicali Blues, helping to streamline the "hippie-ish" business and manage its inventory. With stores in Freeport, Portland, Newcastle, and Raymond, owners Peter and Kim Erskine were unable to get a grip on inventory flow, which is now controlled by an $80,000 investment in a Retail Pro system. Former clutter has given way to thoughtful arrangement, and the store's Web page has been updated. A recent expansion to Freeport was a bold move.
