Abstract

Berwick-based Prime Tanning recently announced it will merge with Shanghai Richina Leather Co. Ltd. to nearly triple its production capacity and put it at the front of the premium leather industry. The name of the combined company will be Prime Leather International, and it will be led by Prime's current CEO, Robert Moore. The family company was founded by Morris Kaplan, a Russian immigrant who started the business in 1921. Despite challenges, his son Leonard held on during hard times in 2001, succeeding in a cutthroat environment while making strategic long-term decisions.
