Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on Maine's congressional delegation, which is pushing for immediate action to regulate all energy markets in light of high increases in fuel prices. U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe blames "rampant speculation" for driving up prices. Prior to the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000, legislation pushed by Enron and other large energy traders, U.S. energy futures were traded exclusively on regulated markets.
