Abstract

"From the Ground Up" piece on the importance of the construction schedule to any large construction project, noting that Maine weather plays a key role in determining when work can be done. The Maine Department of Transportation will soon close an 18-mile section of Interstate 295 to accommodate highway reconstruction during the height of the tourist season. With comments on Reed & Reed Inc.'s 2004 construction of Augusta's Sagadahoc Bridge, which required a compressed timeframe due to the Kennebec River's endangered short-nosed sturgeon and freshwater mussel populations.
