Abstract

The Maine Technology Institute at the Muskie School's updated report "Maine's Technology Sectors and Clusters: Status and Strategy," identifies "potential," "emerging," and "sustainable" clusters in the state. Led by economist Charles Colgan, researchers focused on knowledge-based clusters rather than the more general areas they focused on five years ago. The new analysis is intended to increase the cluster enhancement award program, as urged by the 2006 Brookings Institution report, "Charting Maine's Future." Certain clusters have grown, while others, like manufacturers and wholesalers of green products, have not yet coalesced.
