Abstract
"Focus on environment" piece on Ascendant Energy in Rockland, which under CEO Chris Straka, installed New England's largest solar hot water system on the roof of Oakhurst Dairy in Portland. Ascendant''s heat and electricity cogenerator, Solar Heat and Power, combines heat-producing solar thermal technology with electricity-producing photovoltaic solar cells. A residential unit costs about $15,000. Ascendant also developed a line of thermal technology for hot air starting at $3,000. There are 150 certified solar technology dealers, distributors and installers in Maine, a number that will grow to 350 this year. With a list of Ascendant's biggest projects.
