Abstract

Maine's new beverage tax law, created to help finance the state's Dirigo Health program, has catalyzed a repeal effort by a group called Fed Up With Taxes. If the effort succeeds, funding for Dirigo will revert to the Savings Offset Payment, anathema to business people. A group called Health Coverage for Maine has formed to oppose Fed Up With Taxes. With details on both sides of the issue.
