Abstract

"Charting the Course" piece by GrowSmart Maine's communications director, Christian McNeil. He describes challenges for Maine's transportation system, such as a 250 percent increase in the price of liquid asphalt in the past eight months, and says new roads can no longer be the answer to every transportation question. Despite shrinking revenues, the Maine Department of Transportation still proposes to spend 10 times more on highways and bridges than on public transit.
