Abstract
"Newsworthy" piece on Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook and its use of telemedicine to allow psychiatrists at the hospital to interview patients and doctors via live video feed. The two-year pilot project was made possible by a Rural Development grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was driven by the urgency of serving rural parts of the state where certain medical specialties do not exist. If the pilot proves beneficial, the Portland-based MaineHealth network will expand telemedicine to other specialties.
