Abstract

In an economic downturn, four veteran entrepreneurs describe their strategies for surviving such cycles. Michael Fiori, owner of Columbia Classic Cars in Winthrop; Steve Vlachos, owner of Caswell Vlachos Group in Portland; Rory Strunk, owner of Stackbox in Portland; and Jim Wilfong, owner of Innovative Applied Sciences of Long Island, New York, and an instructor at the University of Southern Maine's Center for Entrepreneurship; have all started and sold multiple businesses, and in the process, learned the value of operating a "lean and mean" business.
