Abstract

"Focus on Law" piece on Maine's new Business and Consumer Docket (BCD), which has resolved 39 cases without a trial since it was launched in June 2007, saving roughly 142 court days and thousands of dollars in legal and court fees. Now a tightening state budget could cut staffing capacity and bring a close to the successful experiment. With details on some of the complex and time-consuming cases the BCD has handled and the efficiencies it has generated during its short existence.
