Abstract

An overview of the disproportionate effect of the recession on Maine's retail sector. Maine's growing dependence on the retail economy is in keeping with a similar shift nationally. A recession driven by consumer retrenchment will disproportionately affect female workers, many of them part-time, and will also affect Maine's sales tax revenue. With comments from several store owners.
