Abstract

An overview of how Maine nonprofits are weathering the recession. Organizations like land trusts, community development agencies, museums and downtown revitalization groups contribute to Maine's quality of life, and many are supported by nonprofits. In 2005, the nonprofit sector contributed 15 percent of the state's gross product. Many nonprofits were already operating lean, and the recession might spell the end for those that are underfunded.
