Abstract
"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on Stephen Goodrich, 50, CEO of Portland-based credit card payment processor PowerPlay. He is the new owner of the former Portland Public Market building, which he purchased for $340,000 as headquarters for his company. Other real estate purchases include Riverdam Millyard in Biddeford; 28 Stroudwater St. in Westbrook; 409 Cumberland Ave. and 24 Preble St. in Portland; and 116 Pleasant Hill Rd. in Scarborough, the offices of his company Market Fresh Produce. He grew up on a Gorham farm and also owns Bluefield Organic Farms in Florida. A market tax credit administered by Coastal Enterprises Inc. will reduce the $4 million cost of renovating the public market building by 30 percent. One of the first buildings Goodrich owned and renovated was the 1866 Tracy-Causer building in Portland. He will try to pursue LEED Gold certification for the public market project.
