Abstract

Sharon Terry, owner of Scarborough Downs, says annual revenue has been static in the past eight years and the track is barely profitable. However, she has no plans to develop the 484 acres she owns in the center of town, though the town would like to build a multi-use, walkable village model on the site. Instead, she wants to save Scarborough Downs by expanding gambling. Since the track began in 1950, it has struggled to turn a profit. Terry hopes the Bangor racino will improve her case for introducing slot machines.
