Abstract
Profiles of the Mainebiz's 2009 Business Leaders of the Year, including small company leader Mike Dow, founder of Tilson Technology Management of Portland; Ken Priest II, president of Kenway Corp. in Augusta, the leader in the large company category; and John Fitzsimmons, president of the Maine Community College System. Despite the current recession, Dow diversified, found new markets for his construction consulting business, spun off three affiliates, and nearly doubled revenues from 2007 to 2008. Priest expanded a family business originally based on boatbuilding into areas such as aquaculture, wastewater treatment, and energy. Fitzsimmons oversaw a spike in enrollments across his seven campuses, due in part to his 2008 Rural Initiatives project.
