Abstract

Maine's new tax reform bill, the most significant in 40 years, was supported by Maine's three largest regional chambers of commerce, though not by a number of smaller chambers and other trade organizations. The bill would lower the personal income tax and subject previously untaxed goods and services to the sales tax, some of which would be exported to tourists. Republicans are gathering signatures to repeal the bill, which was praised by the Wall Street Journal as the "Maine Miracle." Details.
