Abstract

The new administrator for the Small Business Administration, Karen Gordon Mills of Maine, paid a recent two-day visit to Maine. Mills founded the private equity firm MMP Group in Brunswick, where her husband, Barry Mills, is president of Bowdoin College. She authored a 2008 Brookings Institute report titled "Clusters and Competitiveness: A New Federal Role for Stimulating Regional Economies." With details on Mills' plans to improve the SBA's response to small business and comments from four small business stakeholders on how the agency could be improved.
