Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Laurie Notch, president of Wasted Minds Media Group, who says providing infrastructure for Maine filmmakers motivated her to open The Maine Studios in Portland a month ago. Already 11 of 12 available offices have been rented and some 50 calls have come from production companies, mostly from California, wanting to rent studio space. The studios are home to the nonprofit Maine Film Co-Op, which will support Maine's film industry. Notch says the tabling of a bill to increase tax incentives for filmmakers earlier this year resulted in the immediate loss of four proposed film projects.
