Abstract

"From the Ground Up" piece on a report by Washington, D.C. think tank The Road Information Program (TRIP), which found that a third of the state's bridges are structurally deficient or obsolete and a quarter of major roads are in poor or mediocre condition. Costs of not improving the infrastructure include accidents, vehicle repairs, and lost productivity. Because the price of construction is low and unemployment in the construction industry is high, investment in bridge and road repairs would be wise.
