Abstract

"Focus on Banking & Finance" piece on a push by credit unions to raise the federal cap on business loans, as commercial lending stalls at banks across the country. In Maine, credit union lending to small business is up 22 percent. John Murphy, president of the Maine Credit Union League, recently lobbied for the change in Washington, D.C. A cooperative partnership of eight Maine credit unions has formed to spread commercial loans among themselves and creatively work around the caps.
