Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Don Hudson, who will step down as president of the Chewonki Foundation in Wiscasset after working for the organization for 44 years. When he began as a counselor, there was one full-time employee; today, under his stewardship, Chewonki has more than 70 employees. That number grows to nearly 200 in the summer, when the organization arranges for more than 40,000 students to participate in camp programs, some that go for an entire spring or fall semester. Hudson was awarded a U.S. EPA Lifetime Merit Achievement Award and the Espy Land Heritage Award, but finds his greatest reward in connecting young people with the environment through spending time in the Maine woods.
