Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the Department of Health and Human Services financial issues and the need to create a second emergency supplemental budget for the fiscal year ending June 30. Governor Paul LePage faults the previous leadership for a poor transition and said that his transition team was not notified about an audit covering 2006 to 2008 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Inspector General for school-based service Medicaid payments. However, former DHHS Commissioner Brenda Harvey denies these accusations. In addition, the state auditor has raised concerns about past claims made through Medicaid that could lead to the state having to pay back some of the amount.
