Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on plans to limit the length of time that a first-run movie theater could have exclusive rights to show a movie. Current practices have driven up movie ticket prices and discourage local competition for films and digital distribution is raising the costs for theater owners. The Motion Picture Association of America states that federal law would prohibit Maine from regulating the terms of movie distribution deals.
