Abstract
According to data from the 2009/2010 academic year, a disassociation persists between the courses of study being pursued by students at Maine universities and available jobs in Maine. The tough economy has spurred more students during the past five years to continue their studies at graduate school. The University of Maine's New Media Program, which combines technical skills with artistic abilities, has been the school's fastest growing department since 2006. The University of Maine has expanded its offerings to meet the needs of the state economy and students with programs in areas such as biomedical sciences, sustainability and climate change. Includes tables listing the anticipated high demand jobs through 2018 and the 2005 and 2010 numbers of University of Maine students pursuing undergraduate degrees in different areas of study.
