Abstract
"Focus York County" piece on Maine manufacturers' need for a larger pool of skilled workers. Industries hit by the recession are now trying to hire new employees to fulfill new contracts and grow but are having difficulties due to a shortage of trained workers, especially in Southern Maine. In response, Maine's technical schools and community colleges are creating new programs such as Southern Maine Community College's "fast-track" certificate program beginning this fall. And the Manufacturers Association of Maine has created a Make it in Maine program to increase partnerships between manufacturers and educational institutions to create a larger trained workforce.
