Abstract

In June lawmakers voted to renegotiate the contract that privatized the state's wholesale liquor operation in order to get a larger share of the profits which are now valued at more than $350 million. Instead of a large upfront payment like the $125 million netted by the state in 2004, legislators want to receive $20 million at the outset and continue to earn revenue over the entirety of the contract. Maine Beverage Co.'s hopes to renegotiate the contract but the state may choose to put the contract out to bid. With details including timeline of liquor oversight in Maine.
