Abstract

A report in Maine Initiatives shows that 80 percent of charitable giving nationwide comes from individuals, the majority of whom earn less than $50,000. Maine ranks near the bottom nationwide in total charitable giving, charitable giving relative to gross domestic product, foundation assets per capita, charitable giving per capita or relative to income, and growth in charitable giving.
