Abstract

"Focus Energy: Out with Oil" piece on switching to wood pellets for home and business heating. Even though wood pellet heating can have similiar upfront costs to oil heating and does not benefit from any renewable energy tax credits, many individuals and businesses like the idea of "buying local" by purchasing pellets from one of the four pellet manufacturers in Maine. Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor is home to the largest pellet heating installation in the Americas and could provide the spark for pellet heat to become an option for larger industrial applications. With brief case studies of businesses who have switched to pellet heat.
