Abstract
The planned extension of Downeaster train service to Freeport and Brunswick by November 2012 has spurred communities to think again about adding intercity bus service between Brunswick and nearby towns. Although the Midcoast Council of Governments and the Freeport Town Council are conducting a study to plan for intercity bus service, some business owners in the individual cities and towns are concerned that any bus proposals that include retail stops might draw consumers to shopping areas outside of their towns.
