Abstract

"Focus Northern Maine" piece on the importance of high speed internet access in Maine's Piscataquis County. Maine's Three Ring Binder Project, was established to help bring broadband internet service to rural parts of the state that currently have dial-up or spotty access, and should be completed in 2012. The project will install an internet "spine" in Piscataquis County and local internet providers will need to make the connections between communities and the spine. With examples of difficulties faced by Nicole Snow, owner of Sebec-based Darn Good Yarn, due to poor internet connectivity and information about a potential deal to create a call center in a former Dover-Foxcroft mill once broadband arrives in the town.
