Abstract

Maine Oxy, a company that supplies industrial, medical, and specialty gases, has been employee-owned since 2004. The article discusses the company’s growth over the past few years as well as the challenges the industry faces, such as seasonal slowdowns. The company runs the nonprofit New England School of Metalwork to train welders. This work force development strategy pays off in the increased demand for acetylene gas for welding. Maine Oxy has also focused on the cylinders that store gas, selling a recyclable one and working to improve both cost and safety.
