Abstract

“Focus Transportation & Trade” piece on the various strategies employed by Maine companies to market their goods overseas. Some companies, Planet Dog and Hydro International for example, have chosen to invest in vetting and training foreign distributors. Other businesses turn to the Maine International Trade Center for advice and assistance. Falcon Performance Footwear is one such company that is expanding its sales of custom-made work boots to miners in Canada with the help of MITC, which helped to resolve issues relating to provincial sales taxes and import duties. Other businesses, including Lighthouse Imaging and Fox Intercultural Consulting, have learned how things work in China, from medical regulatory standards to social media, in order to establish effective business relationships there. MaineAsia, by contrast, brought key players in China’s yacht market to Maine so that they could learn about Maine boatbuilding companies.
