Abstract
The lobster industry is faced with maintaining lobster's cachet in the face of an over-abundance of lobster (lobster landings are up 15% from 2011 and 88% from twenty years ago) which has led to falling prices. Lobstermen recently voted to support legislation that will create the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative, which will be funded by increasing fishing license fees, and which will serve as the industry's marketing arm. Plans to boost the brand include attracting and educating global customers, focusing on sustainability, and boosting lobster processing capacity.
