Abstract
“Focus: Human Resources/ Benefits” piece looks at the Affordable Care Act and the compliance challenges it imposes on staffing companies like Bonney Staffing Center as well as other industries with a significant temporary or seasonal work force, such as the hospitality and construction industries. Among these challenges: determining whether or not temporary or variable-hour workers qualify as full-time. The “look-back” provision allows companies to identify qualifying full-time workers by looking back at the last 12 months of employee timesheets. The Obama administration has extended the full-time worker mandate rollout date to January 1, 2015, giving companies some extra time to resolve their questions.
